The Riyadh international book fair is opening TODAY! It will feature more than “600″ Arab and foreign publishing houses will participate to exhibit more than “250000″ Arab and foreign titles in addition to the participation by the publishing houses federations and publisher associations. Also, Ministry of Information is keen to participation by the biggest number possible of government departments, private companies and institutions, scientific research centers, Saudi universities, and the Saudi private publishers in order to have appropriate representation of all scientific, cultural and literal spectra that issue annually hundreds of books and magazines in various specialties. No doubt, the contacts level between readers in the Kingdom with local, Arab and international cultural would increase with the Riyadh International Book Fair 1430H (2009) that represents an immense cultural event with participation of students, teachers, researchers, writers, intellectuals and readers.

The activity of selling and buying is expected to rise among

the visitors and publishers. The previous fairs in the Kingdom confirmed that writing, printing, publishing, and distribution in the Kingdom are closely followed by all those concerned with the book industry and that the reader in the Kingdom is vigilant as regards the publication activity at all local, Arab and international levels. The purchasing powers of the previous fair rounds ensure that the publishers are keen to participate in Riyadh International Book Fair.

For the first time, the visiting hours will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. for all, including the cultural tent and the exhibition area. However, some evening shows will be exclusively for men.

The exhibition, also for the first time, will provide a place for used books with many famous shops in this field setting up tents. Computers will be made available for visitors to help in their on-the-spot searches.

The fair will be at the newly built exhibition center in King Abdullah Road, near the Prince Salman Social Center. It will run until March 13. The organizers are expecting many visitors this year, especially since the book fair is at the same time as the Janadriyah festival.
